Daily maintenance points for Dalian crane wheels
Dalian crane wheels are key components in the crane operation system, responsible for supporting the weight of the entire machine and achieving operational movement. Its good operating condition is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of cranes. Daily maintenance work is essential to ensure the normal service life and performance of crane wheels. The following are the key points for daily maintenance of crane wheels.
1、 Appearance inspection
Before starting work every day, the appearance of the wheels should be visually inspected first. Check whether there are obvious cracks, damages, or deformations on the surface of the wheels. Even minor cracks may gradually expand over long-term use, affecting the strength and safety of the wheels. If such problems are found, the crane should be immediately stopped and the wheels should be repaired or replaced in a timely manner.
Check the rim and tread of the wheels. The function of the wheel rim is to prevent the wheel from derailing, ensuring its shape is intact and free from excessive wear or damage. The tread is the part where the wheel comes into direct contact with the track, and attention should be paid to observing whether there are scratches, peeling, dents, and other conditions on the tread. These defects may lead to poor contact between the wheels and the track, increase running resistance, and even cause safety accidents. For minor injuries, repair measures can be taken; If the damage is severe, the wheels need to be replaced.
Check the connection parts of the wheels, including whether the connecting bolts, rivets, etc. between the hub and the wheel rim are tightened. Loose connecting components can cause the wheels to shake during operation, which not only affects the smoothness of operation but may also lead to further damage to the connecting parts. If loose connecting components are found, they should be tightened in a timely manner to ensure the integrity and stability of the wheels.
2、 Wear detection
Regularly measure the diameter and wheel diameter difference of the wheels. As the wheels are used, their diameter gradually decreases due to wear and tear. There are clear regulations on the allowable wear of the wheel diameter for cranes of different specifications. Generally, when the wear of the wheel diameter exceeds a certain limit, it is necessary to replace the wheel. At the same time, attention should be paid to checking the diameter difference between two wheels on the same axis. A large diameter difference can also affect the smooth operation of the crane, and it is usually required to control the diameter difference within a certain range. Special measuring tools such as external micrometers can be used for measurement, and records should be kept to timely grasp the wear of the wheels.
Assess the degree of wear on the wheel tread. The wear of the tread surface is usually uneven, with a focus on the difference in wear between the center and sides of the tread surface. The wear condition can be determined by observing the wear marks on the tread and measuring the thickness of the tread. For some cranes that often work under heavy loads, high speeds, or harsh environments, the wear on the wheel tread may be more severe. When the tread wear reaches a certain level, it will affect the adhesion between the wheel and the track, which can easily cause the wheel to slip. At this time, it is necessary to repair or replace the tread of the wheel. Common repair methods include welding, thermal spraying, etc., but the repaired wheels need to undergo appropriate processing and heat treatment to ensure that their performance meets the requirements.

3、 Lubrication and maintenance
Choosing the appropriate lubricant is the key to ensuring good lubrication of the wheels. Select appropriate lubricating grease or oil based on factors such as the working environment of the crane, the material of the wheels, and the operating speed. Generally speaking, for high-speed running wheels, lubricating oil with lower viscosity should be selected; For heavy-duty and low-speed running wheels, lubricating grease is more suitable. At the same time, attention should be paid to the quality and performance of lubricants to ensure that they have good anti-wear, anti-oxidation, and anti rust properties.
Regularly lubricate the wheels. The lubrication cycle should be determined based on factors such as the frequency of use and working environment of the crane. It is generally recommended to lubricate once a week or every two weeks. During the lubrication process, it is necessary to ensure that the lubricant is evenly applied to the hub, bearings, wheel rim, and tread of the wheel. For wheels lubricated with grease, a dedicated oiler can be used to inject grease into the gap between the bearings and the hub until the old grease is squeezed out. For wheels lubricated with lubricating oil, pay attention to checking the oil level and quality of the lubricating oil, and add or replace the lubricating oil in a timely manner.
Pay attention to the correctness of lubrication methods. When lubricating the wheels, avoid contaminating the environment and other components with lubricants. At the same time, be careful not to over lubricate to avoid wasting lubricant and increasing wheel running resistance. For some special structured wheels, such as those with sealing devices, lubrication should be carried out according to the manufacturer's requirements to ensure the normal operation of the sealing device, prevent dust, impurities, etc. from entering the interior of the wheel, and affect the service life of the wheel.
4、 Track inspection and maintenance
The operation of Dalian crane wheels cannot be separated from the track, so the condition of the track directly affects the operation of the wheels. Regularly check the straightness, flatness, and levelness of the track to ensure that it meets the design requirements. If there are bends, deformations, or unevenness on the track, it will cause uneven loads on the wheels during operation, leading to increased wheel wear and even potentially causing derailment accidents. For track problems discovered, they should be repaired or adjusted in a timely manner, and tools such as track correction machines and pads can be used for handling.
Check the connection parts of the track to ensure that the track joints are firm and flat. Excessive clearance or height difference at the track joint can cause impact and vibration on the wheels when passing through, affecting the smooth and safe operation of the crane. For the problem of track joints, it can be solved by adjusting the tightness of joint bolts, replacing joint pads, and other methods. At the same time, attention should be paid to checking whether the fixed parts of the track, such as pressure plates, bolts, etc., are loose. If they are loose, they should be tightened in a timely manner to ensure the stability of the track.
Clean up debris and dirt on the track. During the operation of the crane, dust, iron filings, oil stains and other debris may accumulate on the track, which not only affects the contact between the wheels and the track, but also accelerates the wear of the wheels and the track. Therefore, tools such as brooms and hair dryers should be used regularly to clean the tracks and maintain their cleanliness. For some difficult to clean oil stains, specialized cleaning agents can be used for cleaning.
5、 Operation monitoring
During the operation of the crane, it is important to observe the movement of the wheels. Listen for any abnormal sounds from the wheels, such as friction or impact. Abnormal noise may be caused by problems between the wheels and the track, such as friction between the wheel rim and the track, damaged wheel bearings, etc. If abnormal noise is heard, the machine should be stopped immediately for inspection, the cause should be identified and dealt with in a timely manner.
Check if there are any abnormal vibrations during the operation of the crane. Excessive vibration may be caused by imbalanced wheels, uneven tracks, or loose components. By observing and feeling the operating status of the crane, potential problems can be identified in a timely manner and corresponding measures can be taken to solve them, avoiding further deterioration of the problem.
Regularly check the operating speed, stroke and other parameters of the crane to ensure that it meets the design requirements. If the running speed of the wheels decreases or the travel deviates, it may be caused by wheel wear, transmission system failure, or other reasons. At this point, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive inspection and maintenance of the crane to ensure its normal operation.
In short, the daily maintenance of Dalian crane wheels is a meticulous and important task that requires operators and maintenance personnel to possess certain professional knowledge and skills, and strictly follow maintenance points and operating procedures. Only by doing a good job in daily maintenance can problems be discovered and solved in a timely manner, ensuring the good operating condition of the crane wheels, extending the service life of the wheels, improving the efficiency and safety of the crane, and providing reliable guarantees for the production and operation of the enterprise.
