Unveiling surface treatment technology for piston rods to enhance wear and corrosion resistance performance
In the operation of mechanical equipment, piston rods are often subjected to complex and harsh working conditions, which are highly susceptible to wear and corrosion threats. Surface treatment technology has become a key means to improve their wear and corrosion resistance performance.
Chrome plating treatment
Chromium plating is a common method for surface treatment of piston rods. By electroplating process, a hard, dense and smooth chrome layer is deposited on the surface of the piston rod. The hardness of the chrome plating layer is extremely high, reaching 800-1000HV, far exceeding that of general metal materials. It can effectively resist external friction and significantly reduce the wear rate. Its smooth surface also reduces the friction coefficient with other components, further reducing wear. At the same time, the chrome plating layer has good chemical stability, which can isolate corrosive media such as air and water vapor from contacting the piston rod substrate, prevent rust and corrosion, and extend the service life of the piston rod.

Nitriding treatment
Nitriding treatment utilizes nitrogen atoms to diffuse onto the surface of the piston rod, forming a nitride layer. This nitride layer can significantly increase the surface hardness of the piston rod, with a hardness of 1000-1200HV, greatly enhancing wear resistance. Moreover, the nitride layer has good anti bite performance, which can effectively prevent adhesion between the piston rod and other components under high temperature and high pressure. In terms of corrosion resistance, the chemical stability of the nitride layer makes it less prone to chemical reactions in general corrosive media, protecting the substrate from corrosion, especially suitable for piston rods working in corrosive gas or liquid environments.
Nickel plating treatment
Nickel plating can form a uniform and dense nickel layer on the surface of the piston rod. Nickel has good corrosion resistance and can remain stable in various corrosive media, effectively preventing external corrosive substances from corroding the piston rod. The nickel plating layer also has a certain degree of hardness and toughness, which can resist wear to a certain extent, and its appearance is bright, which helps to improve the aesthetics of the piston rod. Different surface treatment techniques have their own advantages. Choosing the appropriate surface treatment method based on the specific usage environment and performance requirements of the piston rod can significantly improve its wear and corrosion resistance, ensuring stable and efficient operation of mechanical equipment.
