Analysis of Principles, Procedures and Core Technical Advantages of Forging Process
Forging is a core metal plastic forming process in the mechanical manufacturing industry, widely applied in high-end manufacturing fields such as heavy industry, automobile parts, wind power equipment and mining machinery. Different from the integral pouring forming of casting, forging relies on the plastic deformation characteristics of metals. Through external hammering, extrusion and pressing, the metal blank produces directional deformation and the internal metal structure is remodeled. This process manufactures mechanical parts with high strength, high toughness and high stability, and serves as a key production process for heavy-duty and precision stress-bearing components.
The core principle of the forging process is metal plastic forming. Under thermal or normal temperature conditions, pressure equipment breaks the original loose grain structure of the metal, forcing the metal grains to rearrange and bond closely. It eliminates inherent defects such as pores, shrinkage cavities and cracks inside the blank, resulting in a uniform and dense internal metal structure. The mechanical properties of parts are greatly improved, enabling forgings to deliver stronger compression resistance, tensile resistance and impact resistance, adapting to various complex and heavy-duty working conditions.

The standard production procedure of forging is standardized and rigorous, mainly including five major links: blank pretreatment, heating, forging forming, finishing and heat treatment, and quality inspection. Firstly, metal raw materials are cut and polished for pretreatment to remove impurities and defects. Professional heating equipment is adopted for precise temperature control to improve metal plasticity and reduce deformation resistance. Then, forging equipment completes forming processing such as open die forging and die forging. Subsequent calibration and finishing optimize product accuracy, while heat treatment processes including quenching and tempering strengthen comprehensive performance. Finally, qualified finished products are screened through non-destructive testing and dimensional verification.
Compared with other processing technologies, forging has prominent technical advantages. Firstly, forgings feature dense internal structure without loose defects, with far higher strength, toughness and wear resistance than castings, effectively avoiding fracture and deformation failures. Secondly, the process boasts strong adaptability, capable of manufacturing large, special-shaped and high-precision heavy-duty parts to meet customized demands of various high-end equipment. Thirdly, forgings have excellent fatigue resistance, maintaining stable performance under long-term and high-frequency operation with longer service life. With reliable and high-quality forming performance, the forging process remains the core manufacturing technology for load-bearing components of high-end machinery, supporting the high-quality and long-term stable operation of industrial equipment.
