Heat treatment forming process of gear casting

For forging process, general forming process can be used, and normal requirements can be considered; As for steel casting gears, such as driven gear, gear and idler gear, the molding process of quartz sand is a better choice. Since most of the positions of gears must be produced and processed, you do not need to apply higher forging technology; In addition, for medium and large section steel castings, gear processing plants basically select and apply the molding process of quartz sand.

For heat treatment, all steel castings must be standardized to remove internal working pressure. Some positions of gear castings can be welded by electric welding. If the steel rolling mill welds the castings, be sure to quench the welded parts. If the strength after gear hobbing is very high, quench again to reduce the strength and remove the internal hard spots. After production, processing and gear hobbing, gear heat treatment or hard bottoming is solved to improve the surface strength of gear teeth. For large and medium driven gears, you can do surface quenching. The service life of gears without hard bottoming is very short, only many weeks to many months.

Because gear castings have higher requirements on raw materials, defects, production processing and heat treatment. Moreover, the order quantity of gear castings is relatively small, so many steel rolling mills do not want to produce.
